The Schedule Isn't the Answer. Your Inventory Is.
Every year about now, someone asks me, "When does Hallmark Christmas movies start 2025?" I get why. The Countdown to Christmas lineup is basically the starting gun for holiday shopping. But after 200+ rush orders in seven years, I've learned that the exact premiere date is the least useful piece of information.
Here's my opinion: If you're waiting for the network to announce the date, you've already missed the moment to order the products that sell because of it.
I'd rather spend 10 minutes explaining lead times than deal with mismatched expectations later.
As of January 2025, Hallmark hasn't confirmed the exact 2025 premiere date. Historically, the Countdown to Christmas lineup starts in the third week of October. The network usually announces the schedule in late spring. So if you're planning a B2B order for seasonal ornaments, candles, or giftware, that's your official answer. Plan for late October. But my real answer is earlier: your inventory needs to be ready before the first movie airs.
According to the National Retail Federation (nrf.com), 2024 winter holiday sales grew about 4% over the previous year. Gift and seasonal decor were among the strongest categories. That growth makes the movie schedule even more important: it's a demand trigger, not a trivia answer.
Wicked Hallmark Ornaments Are a Warning
Let's talk about Wicked Hallmark ornaments. If you're a retailer, you already know these are not just ornaments. They're a collectible event. The 2024 Wicked collection moved fast. Some SKUs sold out before the movie even opened. And every buyer who waited was stuck with resale pricing or empty hooks.
I remember one wholesale account that wanted to add a Wicked ornament display in late October. Normal lead time was four weeks. She needed 80 units in seven days. We found inventory—after calling six distributors—and paid $340 in expedited shipping for what should've been a $60 ground order. We delivered, but the margin on that order was basically gone.
Licensed IP means pre-approved designs, allocated production, and limited reruns. You can't just "make more" because a movie surprised everyone.
Crystal Gifts and Scented Candles Don't Care About Your Deadline
The same logic applies to a crystal gift order. Crystal is a big part of Hallmark's gifting lineup, and it's beautiful. But it's also fragile, heavy, and often engraved. You need time for production, personalization, and safe shipping.
I want to say our standard custom crystal lead time is about three weeks, but don't quote me on that—it depends on whether you're adding a logo, a date, or a full message. What I know for sure is that we've never successfully rushed a 40-unit crystal gift order without at least one broken piece. The one time we tried to compress the timeline from four weeks to six days, we ended up eating the cost of a replacement. And the customer still had to make two trips to the courier.
Scented candle orders are even trickier. Candles need wax cure time, wick testing, and sometimes safety data. A rushed candle can look fine and still not burn straight. That's a product failure you don't want linked to your name.
Last quarter, we processed 47 rush orders, and the candle orders were the ones that kept me up. One client called at 9 a.m. needing 250 scented candles for a corporate event 72 hours later. We found a local manufacturer who could do it, paid $450 extra in freight and labor, and delivered with about four hours to spare. I honestly couldn't tell you if the wax had fully cured. The client was happy, but I don't like betting on "probably fine" when it comes to fire and fragrance.
The Arc Raiders Search Nobody Plans For
One of the strangest searches I've seen recently is "where to find a candle holder Arc Raiders." I'm not a gaming collectibles specialist, so I can't tell you exactly where to find one. But I can tell you this: the person searching for that isn't browsing. They're hunting for a specific item from a specific property. If a retailer brushes off that request, they've lost a customer before the conversation even started.
You don't have to stock every niche item. But you do have to know what your customer is actually asking for. "Where can I find X?" is often a test of whether you're a source for answers or just a transaction. The right response is either "Here's where to look" or "We don't carry that, but here's what I can special-order for you."
Isn't This Obvious? I Thought So Too
You might be thinking, "Everybody knows holiday inventory has to be ordered early." I used to think that too. Then in 2023, I lost a $15,000 contract because I tried to save $600 on standard shipping for a rush order. The client's event was a launch party. We missed the freight cutoff by two hours. They cancelled.
That's when I implemented our "48-hour buffer" policy. Now every time-sensitive order gets a second look before anyone chooses a shipping class. It's not about being paranoid. It's about asking one question before you sign off: What does a delay actually cost?
What to Do With the 2025 Start Date
So, when does Hallmark Christmas movies start 2025? Plan for late October. Wait for the official date if you want, but don't let that date drive your purchasing calendar. The retailers who do well with Hallmark product lines are the ones who treat the premiere date as the finish line, not the starting line.
Take it from someone who has made the mistake. An informed customer asks better questions and makes faster decisions. Help your clients understand that, and you'll have fewer emergency calls and a lot more margin left on the table.
